We drove on the highway back
home, and I could not believe what I have just seen. Things just kept getting
stranger and stranger. I texted Sam saying, “Look at Kim’s hand, it was her who
started the fire Sam!” He looks to his right and spots the burns, then pulls
over to the side of the road. “Kim, why did you do it? Please do not look at me
like you are confused, I can see your hands” he said. She quickly opens her
door, and begins running towards the forest. Sam got out of the car, and ran
behind her. Emma and I just looked at each other not knowing what to do.
I then turned the car off and
pointed at the forest trying to tell Emma, “Let’s follow them”. She got the
message, and we ran together into the forest. It was dark for us to see, but
some parts of the forest were visible because of the bright moonlight. We heard
their voices and began to follow the sound. We got to them to find Kim standing
in front of Sam shouting, “What do you want from me? I had to do it. It had to
be done. They both deserved it. Ask Emma, she hated them too.” We all looked at
Emma and she said. “I did not like what they did to me, doesn’t mean I should
kill them.”
We slowly approached Kim as she
began crying, “They were the ones who crashed into us. They were the ones that
killed Mary. He had a couple of drinks that night, but his rich father covered
that up with the police. Nobody even cared for Mary, I was the only one who
did.” That is when I snapped. I looked at her with disappointment, and
suddenly, not knowing what had gotten into me, my hand rapidly rose up high and
I slapped her. I pounded my fist on my chest, as I began tearing, stating to
her that I cared! I cared! I cared about Mary!
Sam then said while exhaling and
holding my shoulder, “Not many know this, but he lost his voice when he found
out about Mary’s death. The sudden shock, lead him to black out, and wake up as
a mute. Also, the night of the accident Mary told him she loved him and he was
looking forward to finally confessing his love to her too.” Kim and Emma both
looked at me confused. Kim just thought Mary and I were close friends, nothing
more. Only then did she realize that I had feelings for Mary too, and that we
were about to become something more. Emma seemed puzzled; she asked, “When were
you going to tell me this? Why did you keep this from me?”
“Don’t hate him just yet Emma, he
is finally getting stronger thanks to you. He calls you an angel. He writes
about you all the time, and I read his stuff, it is pretty interesting.” Emma
just looks at me, and I froze in my place. She walks towards Kim, and says:
“Kim, I am probably never going to be close friend like Mary was to you, nor
will I be the one to make a boy lose his voice. But you guys can count on me
with anything, I was raised by my mother and my father passed away when I was
only eight years old. I know what it’s like to lose someone that means so much
to you. All I hear are stories about how great he was, and how he would be
proud of me to graduate from high school as an honor student. I just want to
live my life, like any other girl and I need to trust people who trust me. So
please, let’s just go back home.”
My heart skipped a beat just as
she said that. We all formed a group hug, and smiled at each other. Sam said
loudly, “We are the Fantastic Four!” All of us began laughing, and began
towards together. We all decided not to speak of what we know of the tragedy
that happened. Then, unexpectedly, something you only see in movies happened.
There was a big explosion, that threw us four about three hundred feet away
from were we stood. We all blacked out and woke up to a fire in the forest.
Everything was red; the heat was so strong I could feel my skin melting. I
looked to my left, then to my right. I could see Kim and Emma, but where is
Sam, he is nowhere around us.
I heard someone yelling, “Guys,
I’m over here! Run quick the fire is expanding!” I helped the girls get up, and
rushed towards the car. Sam was asking where the key was, I reached out for my
pocket to take it out, but it was not there. He looked at me, and figured that
I had dropped it where we stood. He quickly got out of the car and started
running. Kim, got out and ran behind him screaming, “Sam come back! Come back!
Don’t go there, it’s too dangerous.” Emma and I quickly rushed behind them two
again. We got to where we were last time with fire surrounding us, and looked
around that area for the car key.
Emma then asked us to come check
out what she has found. We sprinted towards her, and saw a big hole in the
middle of the woods. It really did look like we were in a movie; there was a
metallic sphere right in the middle. For some reason all of us, slid down and
walked towards it. We were all curious, yet frightened to touch it thinking
what if something comes out of there. It was a bad idea we agreed, we should
just walk away. Just as we turned around to climb back up, the metal container
pops open and something comes out flying in the sky. We all look up, as it
burst brighter than the sun. It felt like something had exploded again, and it
was raining light rays on us. “That was weird, we should probably get going”, I
said.
The three of them looked at me
puzzled. “What’s wrong?” I asked. “Dude, you’re talking,” Sam said. I was? Yes
I am! I screamed at the top of my lungs thinking this is a miracle, how could
this happen. We all looked back at the sphere, and hurried to see what was
inside of it. We saw three eggs, and they appeared to be odd looking.
Structured in the same shape of eggs we see in our houses, only these were
colored with several colors.
Just as we picked up all three
the same thing happened again. They went flying to the sky, and exploded with
an even stronger brightness. This time the light that rained on us covered the
whole forest and put out the fire. We all looked at each other, and decided we
should go before this gets any stranger. We got in the car, and Sam says, “Oh
no, we forgot the keys again.” “The key is right there,” Kim said. “What? No it
isn’t. Oh yes, it’s there. How is that possible? It wasn’t there two seconds
ago.”
It’s like what we wanted would
just appear. First it was my voice, and then the car keys appeared. Was this
some kind of dream? I thought to myself. “Hey guys, this night is weird, am I
dreaming? Are you guys actually hearing me speaking?” “I guess you found your
miracle after all,” said Emma, “it’s good to know you got your voice back.” She
hugged me, and the two in the front hugged each other as well.
A few seconds later, something
landed on the hood of the car. Freaking us all out. It was a yellow bird; I
have never seen one before. Right after it, three other birds landed: a blue
one, a red one and a white one. Where did they come from? “I am Fog.” “What?” I
asked. “We didn’t say anything,” said everyone in the car. It was the bird; the
bird is talking to me. “You’re crazy man,” said Sam. I got out, and walked to
the hood of the car. “Fog?” I asked. “Yes, my name is Fog.” I did not know who
was talking to me, but I was sure it was one of the birds. “Where are you?” The
yellow one walked towards me and said, “I am communicating with you
telepathically, no one else can hear me.” “Lon? Who’s Lon?” asked Sam as he came out of the car. “Key?”
“Tin?” asked both Emma and Kim. Each bird spoke to each one of us, to others we
might have looked like idiots speaking to birds. But it was true. These birds
did speak to us, like they knew us.
We
came to understand that the birds came from another planet, which we never
heard of, “Float”. They were the ones to burst out of the eggs, and what they
did to us was fulfill our desires to pick someone since we went to their
rescue. Fog made me regain my voice, and Lon made Sam find his keys. “We
fulfill your desires, if you provide us a home within you,” they all told us.
As all birds turned into light, and entered our bodies to become one with us.
None of us could believe that such thing was possible, but believe it or not,
it was true. As we drove back to the city, none of us could say anything. Kim’s
hand shone all of a sudden, and her burn was healed. There was no doubt about
it; these birds were like our guardians and genies.
The girls got dropped off, and
just as we approached my house. Sam said, “Hey I know it’s crazy that you got
your voice back and all, but you can not tell your family just yet. How are you
going to explain to them what happened? Just try not to get caught speaking
until tomorrow so we think of something then. Good night.”
He was right, I could not
possibly tell my family some magical birds came from out of this world, and
helped me get my voice back. I walked up to my room, and got stopped by my dad.
“We’re all going out of town tomorrow, you want to join us?” I remained quiet,
and then he added, “you can stay at home if you want to, we’ll probably be back
by dinner time.” I smiled at him, and walked up to my room.
“Why don’t you go with your
family?” I jumped from the shock, “calm down it’s only me.” It was Fog, he was
speaking to me and I was just not used to having somebody surprise me like
that. He came out of my body, and flew around the room, then settled on my
pillow. My door suddenly opened, and it was my dad. “Are you okay son?” I
nodded and he looked towards my bed. Oh no, the bird was there, he’s going to
see it. “Relax, he can’t see me, only you and your friends can.” “Alright, sleep
well my son,” dad said as he shut the door.
I took off my clothes where I
stood, and quickly covered myself with the bed sheets, as I slowly began to
fall asleep. “This night was so strange, but I’m glad to have my voice back,” I
thought to myself, “thank you Fog.” And I fell asleep.
